(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “We are quite ready to move,” a senior administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told reporters on Monday ahead of the negotiations.
“If they’re ready to go, we are ready to go. But it depends on what they put on the table,” the official was quoted as saying by The Hill.
Any potential sanctions relief would be "targeted, proportional to what Iran puts on the table," the official said.
The United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany (P5+1) are to hold talks with Iran on its nuclear energy program in Geneva on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Asked if that meant that the administration is ready to move "quickly" if Iran does, the official answered, "yes."
Iran has repeatedly said that its nuclear program is peaceful and intended for energy production.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the upcoming talks with the six major world powers in Geneva will be the first test of their seriousness to resolve the nuclear standoff.
“The New York talks [in September] were an announcement of the two sides’ political will to resolve the nuclear issue and we think that the delegations of both sides were ready to reach a quick solution through negotiations at the foreign ministerial level,” Zarif told reporters upon his arrival in Geneva.
The Iranian minister added that he is not pessimistic about the Geneva talks.
Zarif noted that the nuclear standoff cannot be resolved over a session and called for building trust to yield results in the shortest possible time.
